Haridwar Junction is one of the busiest railway stations in Uttarakhand, with direct trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi and many other cities. For most pilgrims, it's their first sight of the city.

Leaving the station

The main exit opens onto Railway Road, which is lined with hotels, dharamshalas and eateries. Autos and e-rickshaws wait outside. Agree the fare before you get in, or use the prepaid counter where one is operating.

Getting to Har Ki Pauri

Har Ki Pauri is only a few kilometres from the station. During festivals and busy weekends, vehicles are often stopped some distance from the ghats, so be ready to walk the last stretch. Travel light if you can.

Where to stay

Hotels near the station suit people on short stays with early trains. If you'd like to be close to the river and the evening aarti, look for places near Har Ki Pauri or along the Upper Road. Ashrams in Bhupatwala and Kankhal are quieter.

Tips

  • Keep a copy of your ticket and ID handy for checks.
  • Be careful of touts offering hotel "deals" on the platform.
  • Save your hotel's address and phone number on your phone before you arrive.
